Date Time Status
Wednesday September 3rd
7:30am
Surgery is scheduled for 7:30am at Little Company of Mary, Torrance CA
Should take about an hour and a half.
After surgery she will be in recovery for another hour or two.
I will call as soon as I know her status.

1:00pm
Surgery started about 7:45am at Little Company of Mary, Torrance CA
Surgery went longer than expected. 3 hours. Ended at 11:00am
I was OK for an hour and a half and then I really got anxious.

Doctors came out and showed me a digital of her organs on his Palm Pilot.
The surgery went longer because they removed some scar tissue from 3 years
ago when she had a cyst.
The surgery went well, just took longer than expected.

She went into Recovery at 11:00am and will be out for a couple of hours.
I am going back after lunch to see her face.
I will call again this afternoon/evening as I know more. They will move her to a room after recovery but I don't which one.

3:00pm
Gail was mostly out.
She could communicate and knew who I was but was still under.
When she woke up she needed the pain button and that put her back to sleep.
They said that she should be more alert by the evening.

8:00pm
Gail was still in and out.
BUT when she was awake she was much more alert.
She wants water very badly.
Tomorrow she should get her first food and water.
Thursday September 4th
Noon
The doctor came in this morning to tell Gail how it went.
He brought his picture and showed her. He told her that it went very
well and that she was looking good. He said that she could have WATER now.
She is so much more alert but still uses the pain button from time to time.
They gave her a bath and her lunch arrived as I was leaving. (All liquid)
She is wearing lipstick but is upset that they don't have the USA channel for Tennis.
She is a lot better..

4:00pm
Her other doctor came to visit her this afternoon.
We went for a walk down the hall and back. It was pretty taxing but she did OK.
She was glad to get back to her bed.
Friday September 5th
Noon
Gail is doing well. She didn't sleep real well last night. Too uncomfortable.
Today she is watching tennis (Channel 2). A lot happier about that.
They have not indicated when she can come home but it is dependent on being able to pass gas.
She doesn't know what to do because she doesn't have any and they haven't given her
anything solid yet. Her doctor will stop by this afternoon.

The place is getting crowed.
I have a fraternity brother on the 4th floor and another fraternity brother on the 3rd.
When I left for lunch, the one on the 3rd floor was having his first baby at 57. He is excited.
Will visit both after lunch.

6:00pm
Still getting better.  Still no solid food (until she can pass gas)
She is stronger and not in as much pain.
Looks like it will be Sunday before she gets out.
Tomorrow morning we will walk and then whenever she feels like it.
She walks pretty well but is exhasted when she gets back.
Saturday September 6th
8:00am
Gail called. They won't give her food.
They did not have any reference to the doctor saying that it would be ok after she could pass gas.
I called the nurse station and they called the doctor who said that she could have an "upgrade" to her menu.
She is watching tennis and I am on my way there.

1:00pm
When I got there Gail was eating oatmeal, scrambled eggs and hash browns.
We took another walk during a tennis break and she is stronger that yesterday.

The doctor came by just before noon and said that she was doing well and if she liked,
she could go home this evening.
We have been thinking about it and she will probably go home.
I was trying to think about what she might gain by staying over but
she did not sleep well either of the last two nights. She is too uncomfortable.

If things do not change this afternoon, she will come home this evening.
I would like to see her comfortable at home as long as she is not missing anything.
Will keep you posted..
